Edge was born and raised on Regina and has lived there his entire life. His parents were hard working construction workers, but Edge was never capable of doing hard physical labor. He was constantly found trying to learn to play the guitar on an old beaten electric guitar he had gotten on his 10 birthday by his uncle, a fairly well known recording artist playing and singing local folksongs. Edge never had the skill to play the rather elaborate melodies of his uncle and became rather desilusioned, still dreaming about walking his uncles footsteps. At the age of 14 he put the quitar on the shelf and started to draw. he attended a drawing class, but didn't have the self disiplin to develop his talent, which his art teacher descriped as uniqe. His interest was still music and in drawing class Edge met Tazz, a kid his age that had been forced by his parents to attend the class, to keep him out of trouble. Tazz was a great guitarplayer and was lead guitarist in a heavy metal group called Thunderstruck. Hearing that Edge played the guitar, Tazz invited him to a rehearsal, and Edge was pleased to find that he could comfortable play rythm guitar to the heavy metal music (it was a lot easier than the elaborate folksongs). Edge played with the group for several years and also became the groups pyrotechnician, using what he had picked up from his father. Just before 18 the group was discovered while playing a gig in a spacer bar, and signed a record deal to do one album. The album was launch the next year and Thunderstruck took to the road. The groups popularity grew slowly but steadily and Edge worked hard for the first time in his life, setting up the equipment and pyrotechnics used in the shows, as well as playing every night. Life was mostly good, but also bad as the chemistry of the group dwindled. Tazz was getting more and more full of him self (in Edge's opinion) and finally after 4 years and 3 records the group disolved. Edge found it hard to find another group to join and lived on his savings for an entire year. He learned computer programming and further developed his skills as a stage technician, appling for several positions without luck. Two years after the group disolved Edge applied for the job as stage technician director at the Regina Wrestling Federation, a large corporation devoted to what they called sports entertaiment. Edge revolutionized the staging of the wrestling shows and the RWF gained in popularity. Gaining a lucrative contract for his ideas he stayed with the RWF for two years before he felt bored and quit. Edge again lived of his savings for several years, developing new techniques for stage special effects, and occasionally selling his ideas to the highest bidder. But after several years thsi became boring and he decided to do something differnt. He offered his services as a stae technican to the Extreme Champhiomship Wrestling group, but demanded to be taken on as a performer as well. He sorely missed to be in the spotlight. He was trained in blade combat and put in so called blade and chain matches, just using his name Edge. He travelled all over Regina with the group and slowly learned a thing or two about patching up himself and his fellow performers. After two years in the ECW he suffered a devastating injury and was forced to quit. He again lived on his savings for a while, spending his time developing a one-man stage show, containig elements of special effects and certain types of houdini-acts. He performed the show on the streets for almost a year, before realizing he needed a better repoire with the aduience. He had always been the guy in the background and he now found it difficult to be the center of attention on the stage. He entered a one year program at a local theater school and learned the skills of acting. While enjoying the quiter time of schoolwork, Edge rediscovered his fondness for playing the guitar. After finishing his year in the theater school his has now decided to try and find a band to play with again, but is not really tempted to the world of heavy metal again. But who will take on a self-taught rythm guitarist without much skills, and is above that covered with tattoos and scars? He really doesn't look like the quiet, artistic guy he really is, but will anyone notice that? |
